One week on

The Australian Rules Football (AFL) Grand Final was yesterday, and I was in Melbourne with Aaron and Joy to watch the match at an outdoor theatre (see photo at link below). In the week since I got here, I've mostly just been meeting with friends/former housemates (Lucy, Mikey, Jody, Aaron) and taking it rather easy. I took two days to refamiliarize myself with Melbourne and had a good time, but I'm ready to move on to new experiences. Thus, I'm looking to fly up to Sydney in a few days and have a look around. Most of all though, I'm really looking forward to seeing the Blue Mountains which are to the west of the city.
It's looking more and more likely that I'll make my way up the coast in the next few weeks, eventually winding up in northern Queensland. If money permits, I'll make the trip over to Darwin and Kakadu national park, but that's no certainty.
And finally, things in Thailand look to be rather peaceful. As of right now, I'm still planning to make it there in January. Fingers crossed!
Oh, and I'll be posting photos of my travels regularly, so keep an eye on the following link:

The first one

In just 19 days - on September 22 - I leave for what I call my Odyssey (for the obvious reference). I'm off to Melbourne first, where I will meet up with the friends I made while on exchange back in 2003. I also intend to travel a bit and hopefully find some work to supplement my adventures. Four months later, I fly to Thailand for two months. Again, travel and work. Then it'll be India for a month, and Europe (via Germany) for maybe two months. I don't have any flights beyond that point, but I'm hoping to make it to my dad's place in Canada before coming back here to Santa Barbara. In the end, I'll find my way back to Australia once and for all (unless, of course, I find somewhere else that feels more like home than there).
I'm getting quite excited to be back in Oz so soon, but also nervous. In many ways, I feel like I've never really left at all. I felt more at home in Geelong for those nine months back in 2003 than I have anywhere else, and so I'm curious to see what it'll be like to be back again after three years away. I fell in love with everything around me in those nine months, and I can't wait to see how I react this time.
